• Never go to sleep with a candle still burning. And never leave a burning candle or oil burner in a child's bedroom.

• Do put candles on a heat resistant surface. Be especially careful with night lights and tea light candles, which get hot enough to melt plastic. (TVs are not fire-resistant objects!)

• Keep clothes and hair away from a burning candle. If there is any chance you could lean across a candle and forget it is there, put it somewhere else. You do not want to set fire to your clothes or your hair!

Wooden Wick Candles

Trim the wick – Keep your wick trimmed to approx 4 mm before each lighting. This also applied to the first time you light your candle. Ensure that any wick trimmings are remove before lighting the candle. Use a wick trimmer, where possible. (Once the candle has been lit for the first time, you will be able to remove the burnt wick with your fingers).

Candle Performance - For maximum results burn your candle for 2-4 hours at a time. After this period allow the wax to cool and solidify before re-lighting. This helps to maintain the life of your candle giving you a full and consistent fragrance throw throughout burning.

Lighting and extinguishing the candle - Use a long barrelled gas lighter where possible as they do not leave residue which matches can and it is easier to ignite the wicks as the wax reduces down the candle jar. We recommend using a candle snuffer to gently extinguish the flame.

Let the wax pool - Each time you burn your candle allow the entire top layer to become a pool of liquid wax. This creates the best fragrance throw available, keeps your wicks burning with a consistent flame and helps to avoid tunnelling (wax residue left at the sides of a candle jar). It is the melted pool of wax that creates the fragrance throw.

Knowing when to say goodbye - Our wooden wick candles are designed to self-extinguish before all the wax is used up, so there will be approx. 1 cm of wax at the bottom of the candle that cannot be used. Never burn a candle to the bottom of the jar, always discard a candle (except tea lights) when the wax is 1cm from the bottom or the container.
